Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know about recycling pickleballs with Back in Play.
Pickleballs are made of polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE) plastic. However, they are not the kind of plastic regular curbside recycling programs are meant to recycle. Their material, size, and shape make them difficult for normal recycling centers to sort, so they need to be collected separately through a specialized program.
We collect and count every ball, then ship batches to our recycling partner, P3Cares. They process the plastic (shredding and regrinding it) into material for new products, instead of landfill waste.
We accept any cracked, broken, or worn-out pickleballs, indoor or outdoor, from any brand. Please only place pickleballs in the bin. No tennis balls and no trash.
No. The bin, the signage, the collection, and the shipping are all handled by us. It costs your facility nothing and takes about two square feet.
